Thing # 21...Wrapping Up!!
Wahoo... I must say that I enjoyed Web 2.0. I found it to be a great way to learn and become familiar with soo many new sites and resources. As a front desk service person, I would not need to use all the resources everyday, but am certainly thrilled to have learned about them to share with the public. I felt is was a great interactive way to connect staff and assist everyone in removing themselves from their comfort zones and to help us all learn and expand our horizons. My favorite is NetLibrary as I love being able to read a book whenever I have access to any computer! I have assisted my friends and family to sign up, and they all love it! Learning about BING vs Google has also opened up new searching opportunities for all! Thank you for helping OCL staff learn in order to better assist themselves and the public!
Thing # 20 ListenNJ
I have used ListenNJ and find it to be a wonderful alternative for getting reading done without having to carry around the book! Several customers who have used ListenNJ are absolutely thrilled with it. Some have complained about the fact that they could not find a certain title, but all enjoyed the access and availablilty of items.
Thing # 19 Podcast
I used Podcast looking for Christmas music to add some holiday cheer to my day. I enjoyed the variety of podcasts I found and was able to find some of my favorite holiday tunes. Podcast was easy to access although my computer is older so it was slower than expected.
Thing #18 ..Delicious!
I really enjoyed the searching the tags in delicious. The tags are like having another brain to assist one in searching and exploring; and developing bookmarks that may not have come to mind initially. It is like having a whole team assist you!
Thing # 17 Tagging
I checked out tagging on LibraryThing and found the tags to be a great way to organize. I personally will use tagging wherever I can as I feel it is useful to keep all my thoughts, ideas, etc etc at my fingertips. Anything to bring more organization to my life I welcome!
Thing # 16 Wikki 2
This is a great source. It would be a wonderful way to organize any party or reunion where friends are coming from all over. I will be planning a few baby showers next year so this would also be a great way to get everyone organized.
Thing # 15 Wikis part 1
Although Wikki may be applicable for many, I would not use it. Anyone can update information, and I question the validity of the information. I can see it as a tool for sharing however.
Thing # 14 Picnik
This is wonderful to create posters and all kinds of projects with your pictures. It can be used from home to enhance your personal photos and is a great tool to show customers who may want to tweek their own photos. I will be looking to use it at the branch to create awesome displays!
Thing # 13 - GoogleDocs
I can see using google docs for collaborating on a project. It will work out very well for sharing ideas and documents with others while working on group or committee projects. It will save time since there will be less time meeting to work on projects together.
Thing #12- Twitter..tweet etc
I had problems logging into Twitter at first, and subsequently had to choose another name etc. However the second time worked like a charm! I personally do not see the point of Tweeting, when one can email or use AIM. I might use it to keep up with something of current interest to me when available.

Thing # 11- Facebook
I am familiar with Facebook since I have witnessed it's boom in popularity through my now 20 something children. Yes, it is their social network system, and they stay in touch and meet many friends through it. I however, prefer face to face meetings and old fashioned phone and email comminication. It is a great way to keep up with others lives , but many may lose the social skills needed in our society.

Thing # 10 Net Library
I am happy that I had the time to sign up and use Netlibrary. I have shown many customers how to register and now I will be able to share my experience with them. It is a wonderful source for those who do not have the time to read but spend a lot of time at the computer. It could be used during break time at one's job and they would not have to worry about the fact that the book they are reading is in the car etc. I love it! But of course, is there ever enough time. I need a clone!
Thing # 9 - Worldcat
I had used Worldcat before as a staff member and customer. It is a great resource to assist in finding that obscure title for customers. A customer is often pleasantly surprised when introduced to Worldcat as a new source , and it helps them to know what to ask when requesting an ILL. Worldcat is easy to navigate, making it user friendly. It is an easy source to aid a staff member in filling out an ILL form.

Thing #8 - Library Thing
Library Thing is a valuable tool for all! What a great find for myself and customers. I love that you can search for subjects of interest and find all genres. It is a great place to comment on a recent good read as well as a source to explore all the great finds. I found the site to be user friendly and easy to navigate.

Beyond Google!
I must admit that I am a Google user, and rarely used any other search engine. I was intrigued by the Bing vs.Google option, so I gave it a try. Searching these side by side was eye opening; I found Bing to be more user friendly. While search results for each were fairly similar, the layout for Bing appeared more simplistic. I will be sharing Bing with my mother-in-law, who is new to the internet. Carrot2 was an absolute GREAT find, especially the "tree" options. This search engine helps the user to think beyond their original search; which opens up all types possibilities. I will be using Carrot2 to assist me in thinking" outside the box".
